According to CNN , “A suicide attack in Pakistan’s capital city of Islamabad on Tuesday killed 12 people and injured another 20.” It is said to be the worst suicide bombing in the South Asian nation in nearly two decades. Such a horrifying event happened in such a short amount of time, leaving the city in complete shock. There have been many thoughts and discussions about the suspected attacker and what might have led to the explosion.
The tragedy had a huge impact on many people. Pakistan’s Prime Minister claimed that “Indian terrorist proxies” were responsible and said that many assaults were “being carried out from Afghan soil and backed by India.” However, there was no proof presented to support those accusations. The last major attack in Islamabad happened in 2008 at the Marriott Hotel, which killed 54 people and left a lasting memory of fear and grief for many.
Islamabad requires a high level of security to enter and exit certain areas around the capital. Even with those precautions in place, the blast went off in the parking lot of the city’s crowded judicial complex. Many high-ranking officials have offices nearby, making the location especially concerning. CCTV footage showed a man wandering around the courts before the explosion. When a police car approached, he detonated the bomb, causing chaos and destruction. Around 40 people collapsed immediately as panic spread through the area.
Pakistan has unfortunately faced ongoing violence in recent years, especially since the Afghan Taliban took control of Kabul in 2021. This attack shows how unpredictable and dangerous the situation has become. People across the country are mourning the victims and hoping that stronger security and peace efforts can prevent another tragedy like this from happening again.
