Remembering Korey Nnokam

Life can change in an instant. On May 9, 2025, the community of Broken Bow was struck with devastating news. Eighteen-year-old Korey Nnokam lost his life in a car accident. This event happened one week before he was set to graduate on May 17.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash happened on the outskirts of town when the vehicle left the road and rolled several times. Korey, who was behind the wheel, passed away at the scene. Two passengers were injured and taken to the McCurtain Memorial Hospital. Authorities believe speeding was a factor in the accident.

A Heartfelt Loss

Korey was so much more than a student. He was a son, a loyal friend, and a dedicated teammate who poured his heart into everything that he did. He had a love for his school and his community, and his reputation as a talented athlete made him well-known throughout the Broken Bow. What should have been a time of celebration has instead been replaced with sorrow, as his sudden passing feels impossible to comprehend.

Community Impact

With Broken Bow being such a small town the entire community was effected by this loss. The students especially were extremely troubled, grieving the absence of their friend that they expected to see on graduation day. This is such a vital reminder of safe driving for students. Speeding is extremely dangerous and can have lifetime consequences. No family should have to mourn their child during what would have been one of the most important memories of their life.

Honoring Korey's Memory

As graduation day came closer, his classmates honored Korey's memory. They will forever remember him and his love for everything that he did. The community will gather and share about the impact that he had made. Korey will be remembered defined by his heart, motivation, and happiness.
Rest in peace, Korey. You will never be forgotten.
